I spent the entirety of my 8 year Army career battling the stereotype that women "can't." I refused to believe that we were a weaker gender, or that we were given things and not earned. I was tired of the narrative "Girl Pushups" or "Throw like a Girl. (I have played softball all my life)" They should be the hardest kinds of pushups and the fastest kinds of throws. I have dedicated my life to empowering women through physical fitness and showing them how to become strong not only physically, but mentally as well.
When I exited the Army my enemy was self-loathing and self-doubt. I knew what I wanted to do, but I was told by my former leadership that I would never survive without the Army. Thankfully I had my family and a few mentors who _literally_ stayed on me about pursuing my dreams, I did it. I opened up Dub Fitness. Dub represents the 'W' from my last name. Something that no one could take away from me.
Dub gave, and still gives, my purpose to wake up each day, something for which to live. There are some days when I would wonder if I would still be here, had I not started this gym and always had a group of women counting on me to be their leader. I began to have purpose again and started living the life I knew I deserved. The transformations I have seen over the last decade are what fuel my soul and the women around the gym. It's inspiring to see weakness become a strength, and fear becomes tenacity. My motivation is to touch the lives of women who DESERVE to be in control, to hold the power, and to live the life they dream.
